Learn to Play
Learn to Play (LTP) is IYHL’s introductory hockey program for youth skaters who are new to the game. Open to ages 4 and up, LTP welcomes all skill levels and focuses on building confidence, basic skills, and a love for hockey in a positive, supportive environment. Completion of the Learn to Play program is required before joining an IYHL team, ensuring every player starts with a strong foundation.
Ages
Learn to Play is open to skaters ages 4 and up, with participants grouped into age-appropriate sessions to ensure a safe, fun, and positive environment for all players.
When
Learn to Play is offered in two seasonal sessions—Fall (September–October) and Winter (January–February)—giving families flexible options to get started.
Cost
Learn to Play is offered at a cost of $68, making it an affordable way to get started in hockey.
Where
Learn to Play takes place at the Ice Box and Compton, with sessions scheduled at either rink based on ice availability.
Equipment
All skaters must have a full set of hockey gear to participate. To make getting started easier, IYHL has partnered with Rink Rat Rentals, which offers high-quality, affordable rental equipment for youth players of all ages. Fall 2026 Learn to Play
Fall 2026 Learn to Play is a beginner-focused program designed to introduce young skaters to hockey in a fun, supportive environment. Players will learn basic skating and hockey skills while building confidence, coordination, and a love for the game—all with an emphasis on fun and positive first experiences on the ice.
