Rovers
Rovers is the IYHL’s full-time coed travel program, designed for players seeking a competitive, development-focused hockey experience. Rovers teams compete year-round against strong regional opponents, with an emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and playing the game the right way. This program is ideal for athletes ready to commit to a higher level of training, competition, and accountability—while still fostering a positive, team-first culture.
Ages
Rovers Travel Hockey follows USA Hockey age classifications and offers teams at the 10U, 12U, and 14U levels. We typically field one to two teams at each age group, depending on registration numbers, to ensure players are placed in the best environment for development, competition, and having fun on the ice.
When
Rovers Travel Hockey tryouts take place in May, with practices and games beginning in late August to early September, allowing players time to prepare for the season ahead.
Rinks, Travel & Competition
Rovers’ home rinks are the Ice Box and Compton Family Ice Arena, with practices and home games scheduled at both locations depending on ice availability and league scheduling. Tournament participation is selected each season, so locations may vary from year to year. As part of the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League, teams can expect league travel ranging from Detroit to Traverse City.
Practices & Development
Rovers Travel Hockey offers a strong weekly development schedule with two team practices and one dedicated skill session each week. Goaltenders receive an additional weekly goalie-specific session, providing focused instruction and extra ice time to support their development.
Games & Tournaments
Regular season league games are typically played on weekends, while tournament play may begin as early as Friday, depending on the event schedule.
Jerseys
Jerseys are not included in the registration fee. Families should plan for an additional cost of approximately $200, which covers three jersey sets.
Extra Costs
What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?
Example: Expect team managers to collect funds to cover tournament entry fees.
