Shamrocks

The Shamrocks program plays in the Michigan Girls Hockey League (MGHL), run by the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. Shamrocks is designed for players seeking a competitive, development-focused hockey experience. Shamrock teams compete year-round against strong regional opponents, with an emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and playing the game the right way. This program is ideal for athletes ready to commit to a higher level of training, competition, and accountability—while still fostering a positive, team-first culture.

Ages

Shamrocks Travel Hockey follows USA Hockey age classifications and offers teams at the 10U and 12U levels. We typically field one team at each age level.

We have a successful relationship with the Trine Thunder Hockey Association to ensure a competitive option for our 14U and 16U age groups.

When

Shamrocks Travel Hockey evaluation skates take place in May. Practices begin mid August. Games commence in early-mid September, allowing players time to prepare for the season ahead.

Where

Shamrocks’ home rinks are the Ice Box and Compton Family Ice Arena, with practices and home games scheduled at both locations depending on ice availability and league scheduling. Tournament participation is selected each season, locations vary from year to year. As part of the MGHL, teams can expect league travel ranging from Detroit to Traverse City.

Practices

Shamrocks Travel Hockey offers a strong weekly development schedule with two team practices and one dedicated skill session each week. Goaltenders receive an additional weekly goalie-specific session, providing focused instruction and extra ice time to support their development.

Games

Regular season league games are typically played on weekends, while tournament play may begin as early as Friday, depending on the event schedule.

Jerseys

Jerseys are not included in the registration fee. Families should plan for an additional cost of approximately $150, which covers two jersey sets.

Extra Costs

To promote team and organizational unity, we highly encourage our full-time travel players wear Navy helmets, gloves and pants (or shells).
