Volunteers

Volunteer Expectations

We couldn't do any of this without you — and because you're working with young athletes, we want to make sure everyone is set up, certified, and ready to go before the season begins. Here's what we need from each of our volunteers:

Volunteers (Coaches, Managers, Board Members and Locker Room Monitors)

  • USA Hockey Registration — All volunteers must be registered with USA Hockey for the current season. If you're not sure how to register or need to renew, visit usahockey.com.
  • SafeSport Certification — Protecting our athletes is our top priority. All volunteers are required to complete their USA Hockey SafeSport training and keep it current.

Coaches — Additional Requirement

  • USA Hockey Coaching Certification — Coaches must hold the appropriate USA Hockey coaching certification for their level. Not certified yet? Don't worry — we can point you in the right direction.

A Friendly Reminder: These aren't just boxes to check — they're how we make sure every child in our league is in good hands. Volunteers who have not completed the required registrations and certifications will not be permitted to participate in any official capacity until everything is in order.

If you have questions about any of these requirements or need help getting started, reach out to registar@iyhl.club or the coaching handbook and we'll help you figure it out. We've all been there.

2026/2027

Youth hockey doesn't run itself — trust us, we've tried. Our coaches, team managers, and board members are the reason Irish Hockey works. From early morning ice times to end-of-season celebrations, these dedicated volunteers show up so our kids can shine. If you're joining us for the 2026/2027 season, welcome to the best unpaid job in South Bend.
